Cutting-edge Surgical Microscope for Ophthalmology – Perform Cataract Surgery Confidently
4th July 2019
Statistically speaking the most common procedure in Europe is cataract surgery, which has been conducted more than 4.5 million times by eye surgeons. Cataract surgery is required when your vision becomes blurry because the lens in your eye deteriorates and becomes opaque with age. The transparency of the lens depends on the health of your crystallin, a water-based protein that makes up 90% of the protein in the lens.
OM-19 operating microscope provides surgeons with full control in the operating theatre to perform an accurate surgery. Takagi’s surgical microscope is the first in the world with independent LEDs for red reflex and coaxial illumination, which can be controlled independently. With LED illumination system designed to optimise the workflow during the eye operation and high-end optics, the image is outstandingly bright and clear. For example, in this video, the light from the fundus is extremely bright reflecting the natural red from the fundus very clearly. In this way, during the phacoemulsification procedure, when the lens is extracted the brightness of the red reflex allows the surgeon to see clearly and remove the lens. At this stage a new plastic lens, IOL is inserted in the anterior chamber in front of the vitreous body, as seen in the video.
With OM-19 the eye professional has full control of which illumination to use depending on the surgery performed and the patient conditions. The video shows an intraocular lens replacement after cataract surgery, performed at Chukyo hospital in Japan. The incredible video of the retina is immaculately visible thanks to exceptional High Illumination LED with excellent colour balance from Takagi OM-19 Operating Microscope.
